Upper Mustang Trek

Trip Overview

Upper Mustang is one such place where many trekkers aspect to trek if they truly wanna experience the kingdom behind the Himalayas rather than walking along with the Himalayas.

Upper Mustang is also one of the restricted areas of Nepal where except for Nepalese, other citizens have to pay a certain amount to just even enter. And with your increasing stay of yours after 10 days, you have to pay more.

The area is extremely protected, very less impacted by outsiders (travelers), and naturally magnificent. It’s just if you are looking forward to this trek, then please go with the standard itinerary. Because it is really important to mind altitude sickness at higher altitudes.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing

On this day, you will go sightseeing in Kathmandu. We will suggest some places, so you can choose where you want to go. You will be doing sightseeing at heritage sites in the Kathmandu valley.

Day 3Kathmandu to Pokhara

On the very first day of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, we would be leaving Kathmandu city. If you prefer to not spend too much time traveling, then you can choose to take a half-hour flight. Or, you could just travel there via bus. Night stay at Pokhara

Day 4Pokhara to Jomsom and Kagbeni (2,800 m)

From Pokhara, one could fly to Jomsom and then either take a private vehicle or trek to Kagbeni. It could take approximately 3–4 hours to reach Kagbeni via walk. Night stay at Kagbeni

Day 5Trek to Chele (3,050 m)

Chele is a small village situated at 3050m above sea level. It will take approximately 6-7 hours to reach Chele village from Kagbeni (by foot). While the trail goes along with the bank of Kali Gandaki, Night stay at Chele

Day 6Trek to Syangboche (3,800 m)

The 800-meter height difference between Chele and Syangboche makes the trek from Chele to Syangboche an extremely difficult task. However, spectacular mountain views, beautiful landscapes, the villages of Ghyakar and Samar, and Chungsi Cave make it one of the most beautiful treks as well. Night stay at Syangboche

Day 7Trek to Ghami (3,520 m)

The Syangboche to Ghami trek in upper Mustang, Nepal, follows the traditional route through Tamagaon, Ghiling, Chhunggar, and Jhaite villages, taking in the breathtaking scenery and blue sky. During this journey, you will trek up and down the walking track of the semi-arid desert of the Himalayas. The Syangboche to Ghami route offers you insights similar to the exploration of a village on the Tibetan plateau. It takes 5 to 6 hours to cross from Syangboche to Ghami because of the ups and downs of the trail to cross three different passes. Night stay at Ghami

Day 8Trek to Charang/Tsarang (3,560 m)

On this day, we would start our walk from Ghami village towards Charang right after breakfast. It would be about 5–6 hours of walking. The Choya La, at 3870 meters, is the most difficult pass of the day and offers spectacular views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Thorang Peak, and other peaks. The hiking pass from Ghami to Tsarang, through generally difficult terrain, offers the best view of a remote region of the trans-Himalayan valley. Night stay at Charang

Day 9Trek to Lo Manthang (3,840 m)

It will take 4 to 5 hours to walk the majority of the flat, wide, and gradually ascending Lo Manthang walking trail. Therefore, we wouldn't rush to get there. Charang, located halfway between Tsarang and Lo Manthang, provides the ideal balance of seclusion, adventure, scenic beauty, and cultural richness. Night stay at Lo Manthang

Day 10Explore Lo-Manthang

For the Lo Manthang day trip to Garphu and Chhoser, the first choices are pony riding, walking, or a jeep safari. The horse rides to Chhoser during your visit to Lo Manthang are another exhilarating experience. There are a few monasteries and historic caves on rock cliffs in the Chhoser area, both of which are very impressive to see. Chhoser Valley's Jhong Cave, Konchok Ling Cave, and Ritseling Cave are all well-liked tourist destinations. Night stay at Lo Manthang

Day 11Trek to Dhakmar (3,820 m)

By way of Ghar Gumba, Marang La, and Muila, it takes 6 to 7 hours to get from Lo Manthang to Dhakmar. To get to Lo Gekar and Dhakmar, the trek began along the sides of high mountains and gorges, going up and down through arid terrain. This trek explores the stunning sight of red cliffs glowing brilliantly in the sun as it passes through Samduling, Marang La (4230 meters), and Muila (4180 meters). The highest point that you can reach in Nepal while on the upper Mustang trek is Marang La, also known as Chogo La. Night stay at Dhakmar

We spend some time exploring the monastery before continuing on our journey to Chukksang, where we eventually arrive. Overnight at Chhukksang

Day 14Trek to Jomsom

On the twelfth day of our Lo Manthang trek, we trek from Chhuksang to Kagbeni and then on to Jomsom. This trek takes us 6–7 hours to complete. We will take in the stunning views of the magnificent Nilgiri Himal as we travel. It will take us roughly 4 hours to get to Kagbeni from Chhuksang. We eat lunch at Kagbeni before continuing our hike. Jomsom is 3 hours away from Kagbeni, and when we get there, we'll reflect on our incredible journey. You can take a hot shower when you get to Jomsom to wash all of the fatigue from the journey away.
